Email Tracing - Trace Email - Trace Instant Message - Trace Email Address - Trace IP Address - Reverse Search Email

Is someone using emails or IM's to spread lies about you or your loved ones? Are you receiving obscene, harassing emails or Instant Messages? Are you receiving threatening emails or a flood of junk mail, spam or viruses? Do you feel that someone you love and trust may be using emails or Instant Messages to hide their communications from you? Do you feel that someone is communicating via emails or Instant Messages behind your back? Has someone gotten hold of your email address or Instant Messenger Name—and won’t let go?If any of the above questions relate to you help is just a few clicks away.

This report can help you find the source of emails or Instant Messages. Tracing backward by analyzing the email message and using email trace and Instant Message tracing technology the sources of the messages can be identified. Depending on the various factors involved some traces are fast and some take a lot longer. Given enough time and resources any source can be identified. In most cases, simply uncloaking the individual is enough to bring your problems to swift and successful resolutions.  Email Trace reports generally provide you with the city, state, country, longitude, latitude and possible street or area from where the email originated. You can also take advantage of Virginia's new Anti-Spam Law. This law allows authorities to seize the assets earned from spamming while imposing up to five years in prison. The penalties can apply even if the sender and recipients live elsewhere because much of the global Internet traffic passes through northern Virginia, home to major online companies such as America Online and MCI and a conduit to major federal communications hubs in neighboring Washington and its suburbs.

Trace email service helps you trace any email originating in the following countries: USA, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Russia, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, India, Turkey, Bahrain, Dubai, Qatar, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, South Africa, Mexico, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina,

Most people feel a general sense of anonymity when communicating via email or Instant Messages. This makes it very convenient to use emails and IM's, for conducting secretive activities such as extramarital affairs, cheating or other under the table dealings. This same sense of anonymity also makes it convenient to anonymously spread lies about someone or  allow potentially dangerous individuals to harass you or your company via emails or Instant Messages, causing undue hardship and grief.

People look on email as a very transient, free form of communication and once you delete it, it's gone. Once you click on the 'send' button emails do not disappear into the ether. Copies of emails could be still lingering, on your company's computers, on a server somewhere or somebody else's computer just waiting to be discovered.  Emails you send at work belong to your employer and even when any email is deleted copies of that email can be recovered from backups. Most servers make frequent backups. Emails have a way of lingering around. For example in Microsoft's anti-trust case, a number of four-year-old emails were recovered from the company's computers and presented as evidence against it.

Using emails or Instant Messages for harassing someone is also becoming very common in todays world. According to WHOA, most cases of cyber-stalking are not reported to law agencies because the victim cannot identify the perpetrator. Evidence from support groups supports that cyber-stalking is a growing problem in the Unites States. The Los Angels District Attorney’s office estimates that 20% of the cases reported to their Stalking Unit were cyber-stalking cases. In New York City, the unit of Computer Investigations and Technology reports that approximately 40% of their caseload for the last few years involve cyber-stalking crimes. One ISP reported that in the last year 15 complaints per month are due to cyber-stalking. The same ISP also reported that they received virtually no such complaints one year ago.

What are the different factors that can affect the accuracy of traces?

The individual is using an internet Proxy: this is a setting of the ISP which can sometimes show a wrong location. In many situations, it is possible to detect proxies and still return the correct location. The individual is using a dial-up internet connection over a long-distance telephone call: so if they are in Paris and they make a phone call to New York to access the internet you will see an American location for them. Luckily, this is expensive for the individual, so it is rare that this happens.  The ISP of the individual has a country-wide dialup number. Some ISPs can allow users access from anywhere in the country by routing the connection over the telephone network first - so the location will give you the correct country still, but cannot be accurate about the individuals town or city.  Firewalls are sometimes used by individuals or by their ISP or company, and these can cause the location to be less accurate. You still usually get the right country and state, but sometimes the town location could be off. The ISP of the individual is using a brand-new set of IP addresses. When successful ISPs expand and get new numbers assigned to them, it takes a few days to few weeks for the location of these new numbers to get properly recorded, so you can get completely wrong locations when this happens - but this is rare. Here are some reasons why it might be correct, even though you were not expecting it: Someone is spying on your email: we get a surprising number of complaints about email location inaccuracy which turn out to be caused by all the email of the sender or recipient being intercepted by someone else. The individual might not be where you think they are. Every time anyone connects to the Internet to communicate via email or Instant Messaging, they are leaving their IP fingerprint and ISP domain name and other bits of information behind. Often times this could reveal what city and state that person lives in. Many search engines archive a whole copy of the internet at regular intervals. Often times other people, pages or sites mention or list bits and pieces of information. Every activity on the internet leaves bits and pieces of information lingering around. Analyzing the bits and pieces create leads. This is why send as much details as you can to see if this is the case. You can generally know the name of their ISP as well as the language their PC is using, or the operating system of their pc and many other details and if these appear to match the location you got, it is probably correct. Including a copy of the actual email message along with the headers helps with cross verification which in turn can enhance the relevancy. Including any information such as the reason why you are doing the search, any suspects you may have in mind and what are the circumstances of the search will help enhance relevancy of the search or trace. Searching is a cooperative process and the more information you provide the higher the chances of relevant results. Any additional information can be included in the Additional Information or Comments field. If you believe that the sender is using proxy servers or remailers then it is recommended to first use the Find IP Address Search and then trace the sender through the IP address.

What is an IP address?

IP address also called Internet Protocol address is a numeric identifier assigned to a computer connected to the Internet. It is a unique number that devices use in order to identify and communicate with each other on a network utilizing the Internet Protocol standard. Any participating device on the network such as routers, computers, time-servers, printers, internet fax machines, telephones, webcams, servers etc., must have its own unique numeric identifier. This allows transmission of data packets on behalf of the sender to indicate where to send them next and for the receiver of the data packets to know that it is the intended destination. The numbers currently used in IP addresses range from 1.0.0.0 to 255.255.255.255 and some of these values are reserved for specific purposes. This does not provide enough possibilities for every internet device to have its own permanent number. Subnet routing, Network Address Translation and the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server all allow local networks to use the same IP addresses as other networks elsewhere though both are connected to the Internet. IP addresses used locally within the confines of a local area network are called local IP addresses and those used over the internet are called public IP addresses. There are two types of IP addresses (1) Static IP address and (2) Dynamic IP address. Static IP addresses are assigned to a specific device and the assignment does not change while Dynamic IP addresses can be shared or rotated amongst many devices although not at the same time. IP addresses are conceptually similar to phone numbers, except they are used in LANs (Local Area Network), WANs (Wide Area Network), or the Internet.

What is an email address?

An e-mail address identifies an electronic destination to which an electronic message can be delivered. A modern Internet email address (using SMTP) is a string of the form myname@domain.com. It should be read as "myname" at "domain" dot com. The part before the @ sign is the local-part of the address, often the username of the recipient or destination, and the part after the @ sign is a domain name which can be looked up in the Domain Name System to find the mail exchange servers accepting email for that address. The first part of the address, the email user name, identifies a unique user on an email server. The @ symbol separates the user name from the host or server name. The host name uniquely identifies the server computer and is the last part of the Internet email address. The three letter suffix in the host or server name identifies the kind of organization operating the server such as .com for commercial organizations, edu for educational institutions and so on.

What is an Instant Messenger name?

An Instant Message allows electronic communications to happen in real time and an Instant Messenger name or user ID identify the electronic destinations to which the messages terminate. For example email can be compared to a letter sent in the mail while instant messaging can be compared to a conversation over the phone. Instant messaging requires the use of a client program that hooks up an instant messaging service. Most services offer a presence information feature, indicating whether people on one's list of contacts are currently online and available to chat. This may be called a 'Buddy List'. In early instant messaging programs, each letter appeared as it was typed, and when letters were deleted to correct typos this was also seen in real time. This made it more like a telephone conversation than exchanging letters. In modern instant messaging programs, the other party in the conversation generally only sees each line of text right after a new line is started. Most instant messaging applications also include the ability to set a status message, roughly analogous to the message on a telephone answering machine.

What is the difference between a Domain Name, an IP Address and a Computer host Name?

Domain names are similar to vanity phone numbers where words are assigned to represent the phone number. Domain name is a text name that a computer network registers for the numerical ID of the computers in the network. The domain name is used to give computers text names rather than using the numeric IP addresses. Domain name examples are Abika.com, cnn.com, usatoday.com. Computer (host) name are names given to individual computers. Each host name corresponds to an IP address. Host names and domain names are optional and everything can work fine with using just IP Addresses. Examples of host names: www.cnn.com, mail.people.com, Cust112.tnt3.gm3.na.UU.net and so on.

Deducing email, IP, IM or Username searches:

Search Results for emails, IP address, Instant Messenger Name or Username searches are deduced through any of the following. When any computer is online it gets assigned a unique numeric address similar to a phone number. This numeric address is usually assigned to the user's Internet service provider, a university, business, agency or an organization. A database matches such assignments to the location the network has registered. But IP addresses can all be registered to one office of the internet service provider or company even though they may have branch offices worldwide. An ISP like America Online may route its customers' traffic through a single gateway, making AOL users in Kansas appear to come from Virginia. Therefore the IP data needs to be refined, tracing data packets as they pass through traffic nodes known as routers and narrowing the actual location of each IP address. It requires detailed analysis of how various networks work, how the networks are setup, how various networks differ from each other. Even proxy servers and anonymizers tend to have patterns of operation or assignment. This data is mapped to specific blocks of geographic areas and physical addresses. Zip codes and census data are mapped to these geographic blocks to create demographic profiles. In addition to utilizing various search combinations, searching of any available databases helps searching the geographic location of a computer through its IP Address. In addition the location of IP addresses is also verified through other databases of the geographic mapping of IP addresses. This mapping of IP addresses to their geographic locations is updated through IP information submitted from various strategic geographic locations, using many different Internet Service providers. This allows creating mapping of IP addresses to their geographic locations. These databases can also map location names (street, city, state, country) or US zip codes to latitude/longitude values. This information is verified through other IP address sources. Every time anyone connects to the internet they are leaving their IP fingerprint and ISP domain name and other bits of information behind. Often times this could reveal the city and state. Many search engines archive a whole copy of the internet at regular intervals. Often times other people, pages or sites mention or list bits and pieces of information. Every activity on the internet leaves bits and pieces of information lingering around. The hops data packets make between IP's and the time required for the hops also helps in creating a map of locations. Deducing and analyzing the bits and pieces create leads. IP address mapping can also provide time intelligence pertaining to when the computer was connected to the internet. In other words it can help deduce the location of the IP address at a particular date in the past. Depending on many variables such as the sampling rate it can also go back to an area or building address and not the individual units in the area or building. It is also possible that multiple addresses are found. These leads can help tracing Email addresses and IM names back to the location of use. These leads can also help deducing  names, addresses and in certain cases a telephone number. Every email, ICQ, AIM, Google IM and Yahoo IM message, along with every web page that one views and picture or file that one downloads leaves snippets of information. Often times the persons email address, Username or IM name could be mentioned somewhere or the person may have used it for any activity on the internet. Searches consider the various factors and return an estimate of names or addresses associated with an IP, Username, email address or Instant Messenger Name. It is generally very easy to create and close email and IM accounts and therefore it can be possible that over a period of time many different names could be associated with the same account. Please also note that Email addresses, IP's, Usernames or Instant Messenger names can be reused by many people over a period of time. Statistically the newer the email or Instant Messenger Name the lower the probability of finding current or verifiable Name(s) or location(s) associated with them and the more frequently and actively an email or instant messenger name is used the higher the probability of finding names and locations associated with them. Computer related searches estimate results by analyzing patterns, statistical probability, demographics and any other observations available. Searching is a cooperative process and including any information such as the reason for doing the search, any suspects you may have in mind, their possible age, their description such as height weight eye color ethnicity, pictures, any names they may have mentioned, any locations they may have mentioned, any websites they may have mentioned, any mention of likes, dislikes, relatives, friends, associates and what are the circumstances of the search will help enhance relevancy of the results. Depending on many variables there may be no one magic answer to trace an email, IP, IM or username. At times multiple searches may be needed to deduce a pattern. The more information you provide the higher the chances of relevant results. Any additional information can be included in the Additional Information or Comments field. The search path is a continuous interaction and overlapping of induction and deduction, of theoretical hypotheses, pattern analysis and empirical evidence.
